Bitumen odour control

Understanding Bitumen Odour Chemistry Bitumen contains a complex mixture of hydrocarbons, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), sulphur-containing compounds, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as aldehydes and ketones. During heating, mixing, and application, these compounds volatilise, leading to the characteristic pungent odour. Traditional odour management approaches (e.g., activated carbon, biofiltration, or masking fragrances) are either cost-intensive or only temporarily effective, as they fail to address the underlying chemistry of odour molecules.
